Ask and you shall receive

Deepak Chopra calls it the Law of Intention and Desire. In The Secret it is called the Law of Attraction. The Gospel of Matthew puts it: ‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.’

Becoming clear about what you want is halfway to getting it. The three things that generally stop people getting what they want are:
  1. They don’t know what they want
  2. They don’t know how to get it
  3. Someone or something is getting in the way.

These are not insurmountable! Overcome them with:
  • Clarity
  • Sensitivity
  • Self-awareness

Clarity about what you want to be doing, how you want to be doing it, and how much you need to make in order to thrive.

To do this you need …
Sensitivity around what part of your knowledge or skills are most valuable to others. Ask your clients and students what they value in you as a teacher or practitioner. Next, determine whether what you do is a high enough priority in their world. If it’s not, think again. You don’t have your angle right.

Then you need …
Self-awareness to know your strengths and weaknesses and work in your strengths while improving your weaknesses. For your business to thrive, you need to give your market what it wants, not create a brand new market to suit your business.

So -
  1. Be clear about what you want to do
  2. Discuss this with lots of people
  3. Get clear on the angle that positions your expertise in others' minds
  4. Be sure it addresses some salient issue they face
  5. Do what you do best first.
