Yoga Reach director Brook McCarthy was born in Sydney in 1979. Brook became interested in meditation at age 17, after embarking upon a comparative religious studies degree at Sydney University. Shortly afterwards, she was initiated into mantra meditation by a Hindu Tantric monk, attracted by the promise of samadhi delivering ‘a permanent drugless high’. It was only a matter of time - in fact a year later - before Brook discovered yoga and alternative therapies including reiki, tarot, acupuncture and kinesiology.
Brook began teaching yoga and meditation in 1998 and has taught in Australia, Turkey and South-East Asia. In 2000, Brook travelled extensively through Nepal, India and Sri Lanka, following the Dalai Lama, hanging with the hippies and touring sacred sites. Between 2002-2004, she was a small group cultural tour leader in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand and regularly visited the temples of Angkor Wat and other sacred sites.
In 2006, Brook returned to university to complete a masters in international studies. In between travelling and naval gazing, she worked in the business world of public relations, press and online journalism. Brook strongly believes that good technology is easy technology. As Yoga Reach director, she is now dedicated to applying her practical and professional marketing and communication skills to those involved in the yoga, natural therapies and wellbeing industries.
