Learning to let go in order to grow

Yoga business

Many of you may know the quote by Marianne Williamson which begins: “our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”

In a wellbeing business, small thinking is often a defence mechanism against greatness – or failure. This manifests in the yoga teacher teaching countless classes without bringing in other teachers, the masseuse learning web design on weekends, or the Reiki master struggling to complete their BAS every quarter.

When saving money isn’t saving money
Oftentimes, the small business owner argues that they must do their own graphic design, web design, copy writing, accounts or cleaning to save money. And this is true for the fledgling business - keeping costs down makes good business sense.

But when you could be earning $120 per hour and paying a cleaner $30 per hour, or saving yourself the late nights and stress that comes from trying to do something that you aren’t naturally good at, nor interested in, is this really a smart idea?

Overcoming fear of outsourcing
Outsourcing is an absolute must for a business to grow. No doubt you would do things differently from those to who you outsource but, honestly, would you always do it better?

Yes, you need to invest more time initially in communicating what you want, how, why and when you want it by, but taking the time to write this down will often result in a better, quicker, and easier way to do things.

Investing your time
Most small business owners’ time is best spent either doing what they love and are good at, or forging new business opportunities. Nobody can speak as passionately about your business as you can, and looking for a constant stream of new leads and converting these into new clients is time well spent.

Don’t underestimate your desire and need for continuing education, for leisure time, and for time doing what you enjoy – and do – best. After all, as a wellbeing practitioner, you need to set an example of how you value your wellbeing.
